B describes his cycle of behaviour as a fearful kind of pleasure and escape: the build-up, the planning, the thrill of illicit sex and then the come-down — the sordidness, the shame, the self-loathing and the belief that he isn’t going to do it again. It’s sex that ultimately makes him feel less, rather than more, of a man. It isn’t someone simply doing what they want and then lying, it’s a much more self-abusing paradox than that.
