How Do I Know if I Am a Sexual Addict?

Submitted by webmaster on Sat, 2006-05-20 13:36.
Unlike healthy sex that is integrated into relationships, sexual addicts use sex as a means to cope, to handle boredom, anxiety and other powerful feelings or as a way to feel important, wanted or powerful.

Sexual addiction on Wikipedia

Submitted by webmaster on Wed, 2006-01-18 00:15.
A key feature of sexual addiction is its obsessive, unmanageable nature: a normal person might stare as they happen to drive past an attractive person, but an addict will drive around the block to stare again; and perhaps again. Addicts can spend an extraordinary amount of time and money on their habit, entirely lacking control. They often experience an almost trance-like state in which acting out

can go on for many hours. As with other addictions, some addicts experience episodic binges (between which they may believe there is no problem), while others experience more continuous problems.

Volunteers Needed

AASG needs your help in the following areas:

Newsletter Editor: Editor needed for the moribund AASGazette.

Forum moderator: Answer postings and think of creative ways to encourage users to get involved in AASG's forums.

Use the forum to ask your questions. It's better for everyone that way.

You might be a newcomer wondering how the meetings work or you might be a spouse looking for answers about your partner's baffling behavior.

Everyone of us have been where you are right now, confused, perhaps fearful, and desparate for sound answers.

The Twelve Traditions

Submitted by webmaster on Sun, 2005-02-27 03:22.
Most groups use a version of AA 12-Step Traditions similar to this:
  1. Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon group unity.
  2. For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority -- a loving God as this Power may be expressed through our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.

Find a 12-Step Meeting

Submitted by webmaster on Fri, 2005-02-18 08:41.

While entire industries exist to address sex addiction and related issues, the tools that helped us remain sober were all found through steadfast attendance of 12-Step meetings.

We recommend that people who are willing to get better to attend 12-Step groups where through contact with other addicts they can learn how to work the steps, find a sponsor and build a network of supporters.
